Extending an autobiographical narrative and a recurring protagonist from her previous publications and films, the book shifts toward autofiction, reframing lived experience through a character who allows the author to rehearse lives she cannot yet inhabit. Siming, a transliteration of “Yasmine” back into Chinese, appears across four stories as an idol, an idol aspirant, a fledgling part-time girlfriend, and a defeated novelist in an unexpected chance encounter.
