Icosa Magazine: Language Study Language

Description

Inspired by the linguistic game Anthern ofthe Tower of Babel, Icosa Magazine embarked on an exploration of language. Artists who are native speakers of a variety of languages were invited to explore the relationships and interest about their own language, the language they are learning, or the language they once belonged to.

About the Magazine

Icosa Magazine is a Chinese art collective and independent publishing house founded by enthusiasts of mathematics and games.

"Each year, we organize 4–6 creative and research- based projects. We design a set of rules around a selected theme and invite curious minds to join us in exploration. Our initiatives have ranged from Oulipo and generative literature, to Game Jams using tangible materials, studying local languages in Indonesia through linguistic Olympiad methods, tactile research and creation with visually impaired collaborators, sign language learning, investigations into the 1960s counterculture and the personal computing revolution, traditional oolong tea-making techniques, and studies of Escher’s art and Islamic geometric patterns... For each workshop, we bring in new collaborators from different disciplines, with participant numbers varying from as few as 5 to as many as 150. At the conclusion of each workshop, we compile, document, and present the outcomes through our publications.

Subscribers to Icosa Magazine receive handcrafted MAIL PACK every few months, containing several—sometimes dozens—of works born from these explorations. Our members also host game gatherings around the globe, ranging from once or twice a month to, at peak times, daily events!"
