《大钟塔楼王》（1934）和《三月的满月》（1935）是叶芝晚年的两部剧作，后者是在前者基础上，压缩角色而改写的，两者在结构和肌理上都有所承应，堪称为姐妹篇，故可合而并观。
这两部剧作的核心角色，都是女王和一位来自幽晦民间的底层人物（流浪人、养猪人），形成了一阴一阳“异质同构”的关系。流浪人和养猪人在腐烂的泥土里黑质而白章，浑身都是粗野、刚猛；而处于社会食物链顶端的王后则高处不胜寒，徒有嵯峨的地位、被封冻的激情。两者巨大的现实落差，在爱欲的加速推动下，不避暴力和血腥，最终实现了嘴唇与嘴唇吻合在一起。（徐登峰）
